SCA Gallery Show at SEEC October 23 Artists Linda Suskind Kosmer and John Kosmer 287 Main Street, Schoharie
Linda Suskind Kosmer
I am a mixed-media artist based in upstate New York. I create work in painting, collage, ceramics, and animation. My work explores relationships and communication through shifts in scale, form, and material. I examine how perception shapes human connection. Using semi-abstract figures interwoven with landscape imagery, I create densely layered compositions marked by vibrant color and dreamlike logic. Rearranged bodies, shifting scales, and landscapes with human qualities inhabit fluid, unsettled spaces where identity remains unstable and meaning is in flux. These works unfold slowly, inviting sustained looking and reflection.
My process often begins in a sketchbook with recognizable forms—faces, figures, and landscapes, sometimes drawn from direct observation. In the studio, these forms evolve through layering, revision, and experimentation. They gradually shift from the familiar toward the imagined. Embracing chance, through the unpredictability of ceramic glazes, natural materials, and the physical qualities of paint and clay, I maintain a dialogue between intention and accident. Recent projects have expanded into installation and stop-motion animation, allowing imagery and form to move fluidly between dimensions and media. By altering scale, context, and form, I construct fluid realities in which the familiar continually shifts into the imagined, exposing the uncertainty beneath perception.
