Porchfest
New event in the County. Please join us in this community celebration. Rick Hamm, Music in the Burgh
Save the Date: Sunday, September 14, from 1 to 5 p.m. The streets of Middleburgh will be alive with the sounds of local live music. Music in the Burgh is pleased to announce the first annual Middleburgh Porchfest, a free and family-friendly music festival. We invite community members to attend or perform on lawns, driveways, garages, and porches throughout our charming village. This event will feature spontaneous concerts, soulful performances, and heartfelt jams. It will be similar to a village wide garage sale but with music!
We are proud to participate in an international movement that celebrates the power of music to bring people together. The original Porchfest began in Ithaca, NY in 2007, and since then it has expanded to over 150 communities worldwide. Similarly, Play Music on the Porch Day is observed in over 70 countries on the same day, emphasizing the global reach of this cultural phenomenon.
We, at Music in the 'Burgh, feel that the time is right to bring this spirit to our town. The event involves residents opening their porches to local musicians, whether known or introduced through our assistance. Performances will be scheduled in one-hour blocks, with coordination to avoid conflicts. We ask that volume levels be maintained at a considerate level. Participants can enjoy a leisurely stroll through neighborhoods, moving from one performance to another.
We welcome a diverse range of musical styles -rock, bluegrass, classical, Americana, country, blues, yodeling, Irish, honky-tonk, heavy metal, funk, folk, punk, jazz, ragtime, etc.. All styles are encouraged, provided performers can fill approximately an hour. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned recording artist, we encourage you to share your talent with friends and neighbors.
Also, we are excited to announce that The Cliff Cottage All-Star Kazoo Orchestra will kick off their World Tour on Maple Street.
We hope that 20 years in the future at the Grammy Awards someone will say: I’d like to thank my Aunt Bea. The first time I played in front of people was on her porch back in Middleburgh.”
If you are interested in performing or hosting, please fill out this Google Form or call 518-519-0738. We have lots of space and invite everyone in the surrounding area to join us in a fun filled day of music. Hope to see you there!
