Schoharie County Arts Announces Grant Awards and a Reopened Application Period
Schoharie County Arts (SCA) is pleased to award $500 each to The Gilboa Historical Society and Panther Creek Arts. The Gilboa Historical Society will bring The FisherCats to Gilboa for a concert and ice cream social on August 21. Panther Creek Arts will bring the Fenimore Chamber Orchestra to West Fulton on October 9.
SCA also announces it is reopening the application process for a $500 grant to arts organizations in Schoharie County bringing art to the county in 2024. Organizations must be located in Schoharie County. Artists participating in the event may be from within or outside Schoharie County. The deadline to submit an application is August 15, 2024. Awards will be announced at the end of August. If you would like to apply for funds, please complete and submit the on-line form on our website at www.schohariecountyarts.org or print the PDF that is available and return it to:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Gallery@CREATE to Spotlight Schoharie Artists Schoharie County Arts Collaboration Presents “Vision, Light, and Structure” Exhibit Gallery@CREATE Exhibit Dates: Friday July 7th - Sunday August 13th, 2023 Opening Reception: Sunday, July 9th, 1-3pm (PHOTO CREDIT: Stephen Spretnjak, artist, title: collage series) Catskill, New York, June 26– CREATE Council On The Arts is excited to announce it has partnered up with Schoharie County Arts to produce a special, one-of-a-kind collaboration highlighting the artistic talents of several artists representing Schoharie County. A vibrant collection of work featuring photographs and paintings, “Vision, Light, and Structure” explores a range of themes and subjects of interest. All of the pieces come together to compose a rich mosaic composite of the artistic profile that is unique to Schoharie County. An opening reception for “Vision, Light, and Structure” will be held on Sunday, July 9 from 1-3pm. This exhibit will be on view from Friday, July 7 to Sunday, August 13. Gallery@CREATE is located at 398 Main Street in Catskill and is open Fridays, 4pm-7pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays, 11am-6pm. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Arts in Bloom Fest at Schoharie Library
Quilts, flowers, music, arts and crafts, books, food, and more - all by Schoharie County residents - will be featured at the Schoharie Library during the second annual Arts in Bloom Fest on Saturday, June 10, 10am[1]3pm. Admission is free. A selection of colorful quilts made by the Schoharie Valley Piecemakers and friends will be on display throughout the library June 7 - 22. The Schoharie Valley Gar[1]den Club will create floral arrangements featuring flowers from their own gardens, coordinating with the quilts June 9-13. On June 10 Schoharie County Arts will present Music on the Porch starting with Herrick and the Gang at 11am, Greg Bucking at noon, Laura Boggs Gagnon at 1pm, and Brad Towle at 2pm. SCA will also be providing art and craft activities for all ages under the big tent on the lawn. Local artists, artisans, and authors will show and sell their work on the library lawn, with a variety of paintings, prints, photographs, pottery, fiber arts, wreaths, sculptures, fairy-related items, books, and more. Festival goers will be able to learn about native plants, natural landscaping, and gardening with Wild Ones and the Garden Club. Berkshire Farm Center and Services for Youth will host a coloring table. Food will be available from the High on the Hog BBQ food truck starting at 11am. Co-sponsors of this event are Schoharie County Arts, the Schoharie Valley Piecemakers Quilt Guild, and the Schoharie Valley Garden Club. Lisio’s “Layered Bare” at SEEC, SCA Gallery
Enterprise Corp., in partnership with Schoharie County Arts, will present the opening of “Layered Bare,” a large-scale exhibition of Christopher Lisio’s paintings and prints, from 6-9pm Fri[1]day, June 16, at 287 Main Street. The exhibit explores the range and evolution of Mr. Lisio’s work and features examples of his paintings, prints, collages and mixed media. The show will be on view through the summer by appointment at SEEC, which works to foster economic growth and prosperity in Schoharie County. An innovative printmaker and painter, Christopher Lisio has exhibited his work in gallery, museum, university and nonprofit venues since 2000. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University at Albany in 2002 and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of New York at New Paltz in 2006, he worked as an adjunct professor at Russell Sage College in Albany for a decade. Born and raised in Queens, Mr. Lisio moved to Upstate New York as a teenager. His artwork includes the printmaking methods of monotype, silkscreen, image transfer, linocut, relief, collage and photography. Most recently, he has been working on a series of paintings that draw from his experience as a printmaker in his studio at Wellington’s Art Gallery in Schoharie. A portion of proceeds from the show will be donated to the nonprofit Schoharie County Arts, which promotes cultural and arts-related activities while advancing individual artists and arts organizations throughout the area.
